As ever dlr Poetry Now is proud to present the very best of Irish and international poetry and this year will welcome poets from countries including the United States, Poland, Spain and Estonia. Highlights at this year’s festival will include a keynote address by renowned Canadian poet and critic Anne Carson and a reading from last year’s Irish Times Poetry Now Award winner, Sinéad Morrissey. The 2011 festival also hosts workshops for emerging poets, a children’s reading and the prestigious Irish Times Poetry Now Award and the Rupert and Eithne Strong Award.

Reminder: Call For Curators
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office invites applications for the curation of two exhibitions which will take place in the County in 2011.
1) An exhibition of drawings to be held in the Concourse, County Hall, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin from 2nd-20th September 2011. The curator will be asked to develop a theme for the exhibition and to directly invite a selection of artists for inclusion in the exhibition. The artists included must be living in, working in or originally from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. It is important that applicants have a strong knowledge of contemporary drawing (with particular reference to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown). Individual or collaborative proposals are eligible to apply.
2) A contemporary open submission exhibition to take place in Dundrum in November 2011. The curator will be asked to develop a theme for the exhibition and prepare a brief for the open submission, in addition to identifying potential additional locations for the exhibition of work (to date locations identified include the gallery in the Mill Theatre and the exhibition room in the County Council’s Dundrum Offices). The open submission will be open to artists living in, working in or originally from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, working in a wide variety of visual art media. The curator will also be asked to consider opportunities for the public to engage with the exhibition as creators, spectators and participants; this will be done in conjunction with the Arts Office team. Applications are invited from individuals or collectives.
Please note that it is not envisaged that the same curator will be appointed for both exhibitions.

New Pop-Up Shop in Dún Laoghaire offers low-cost retail space to business entrepreneurs
 dlr County Council is launching a new initiative this month to make use of empty commercial property in Dún Laoghaire and to support local entrepreneurs. The County’s first ‘Pop-Up Shop’ is a Council-owned property located in Dún Laoghaire at Park House, Georges Street Upper. The scheme offers temporary, low-cost space to local business entrepreneurs, social enterprises or community organisations to promote their goods and services.
A public information session will take place on Wednesday, March 23rd from 4 - 7pm in Park House, where prospective tenants or landlords will have the opportunity to look at the space, ask questions, and complete an application to take part in this exciting pilot scheme.
The first Pop-Up Shop in Dún Laoghaire will feature an exhibition for the month of April, showcasing the work of dlr Jewellery Designers, and will give shoppers an opportunity to buy some exciting and original items.

The Dublin Painting and Sketching Club 133rd Annual Exhibition
Location: County Hall , Dun Laoghaire
Date: 4th April to 17th April 2011.
The work of over eighty artists will be exhibited at this year’s exhibition and will include, oil, acrylic, watercolour and pastel paintings. To celebrate the award of UNESCO ‘City of Literature’ to Dublin a literary theme is being incorporated in the Exhibition. Over twenty artists will display work which will include portraits of distinguished writers, images of places associated with them and paintings inspired by pieces of prose or poetry.
A number of events are planned in association with the Exhibition. These are guided tours, painting demonstrations and painting critiques which will be provided in oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel and mixed media. The critiques are designed for amateur artists who reside in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area. Two or three pieces of work should be provided for these sessions.
