Pride
This summer has been all about that feeling of Pride. The above picture was obviously taken from Dublin Pride (you can tell from the Dublin Bus bus-stops along the left!), but our members have also attended Cork Pride, Belfast Pride, Berlin Pride and EuroPride in Stockholm!
We're still hoping to make it along to Galway and Sligo Pride before the season is done. If you're planning on attending either of those, please do let us know at lgbt@labour.ie and we can arrange to meet!

Civil Partnerships Bill
On the eve of Dublin Pride, Labour LGBT co-hosted an IUSY LGBT seminar, which was an enormous success. Speaking at that seminar, Labour leader Eamon Gilmore spoke of his intention to reintroduce the Civil Unions Bill due to inaction on the part of the Government. (His speech can be read here)
Just days later, the Government responded by publishing the long overdue Heads of Bill of the Civil Partnership Bill (which can be found here).
Labour LGBT have condemned this proposed legislation, pointing to the lack of access to adoption, and the failure to include taxation and social welfare provisions in this bill. Our statement on the matter can be found here.
This issue seems likely to dominate the LGBT agenda for another while yet....

Get active
We're always looking for more members to get involved to help drive forward the Labour LGBT agenda.
Since our last contact, we have appointed a Membership Development Officer, Ian McGahon, who will be looking at particular initiatives to increase membership activity over the coming months, so stay tuned for those!
Our next newsletter will contain information on some Labour LGBT members who have been selected as Labour Party candidates for the next local elections, as well as some more information on planned activities and initiatives for the Autumn.
Until then, enjoy the holidays!
From Niamh, Neil and the Labour LGBT committee.

About us
Labour LGBT are a sub-section of the Labour Party, established to fight for LGBT rights and representation within the party, and in society more generally.
We are open to all members of the Labour Party, and any interested members are invited to come along to one of our meetings to get a feel for what we do!
